You’re Not Losing Your Mind, You’re Running Low On Surge Capacity

Dates: Nov 6, 2020
Times:11:30 am - 1:00 pm

In the normal course of a crisis, we have a short term threat response – a surge of fight or flight energy – and then when the threat passes, we can go back to “normal.”  But when the crisis goes on indefinitely – as in the case of this pandemic – the body can’t complete that response, so we either stay stuck in high activation (fight or flight), or shift into freeze (or shut down) because our system is depleted.

For many of us – and our clients – we’re emotionally, physically and spiritually exhausted, and as a result, we may be more irritated, forgetful, tired and sad.  We’re not losing our minds – really –  it’s that our “Surge Capacity” is running on empty.

On top of all that, we Helping Professionals are holding space for so many other people who are struggling, too.  How can we help our clients get out of this depleted place when we’re struggling ourselves?  How can we downregulate our nervous systems so we can settle and rest and rejuvenate our bodies, minds and spirits?

In this educational and interactive workshop, we’ll explore Polyvagal Theory and the concept of surge capacity. We will then explore specific somatic and psychodramatic tools to help navigate ourselves – and our clients – out of freeze and into movement, so we can move forward in a healthier way.
