This 3-day Psychodrama Directing Intensive is designed for those who are interested in learning the nuts and bolts of directing psychodrama and experiential therapy, sharpening their skills, and adding new ones to their directing “tool box.” We will co-create a safe and supportive environment where everyone will have an opportunity to direct at their level – from facilitating just one sociometric exercise to directing a full psychodrama.
When students first start directing, they feel overwhelmed because there’s so much to keep track of. Like any new role, however, if you start by directing small pieces and build your skills, eventually the pieces all begin to come together.
This workshop can also serve as a safe space in which to do your own healing work, which can be difficult to find for those of us working in the addiction and/or mental health fields.
Topics we will explore are:
* Facilitating an effective warm up
* Helping the group chose a protagonist
* Facilitating an effective walk and talk
* Setting a contract for the work
* Structuring the drama – Where do I begin?
* Scene Setting
* Bringing in and using auxiliaries (role players) effectively
* Placing adequate role demands to move the drama along
* What to do when you get stuck
* Utilizing techniques such as doubling, role reversal and mirroring
* Facilitating a catharsis
* Managing emotional expansion vs. contraction
* Exploring interpersonal, intrapsychic, and transpersonal dramas
* What to do when you get stuck
* Ending the drama – knowing when you’ve met your contract
* Facilitating deroling, sharing and action sharing
* Providing effective containment for the group before ending
NO prior directing experience is required.
Please note that you must be able to provide verification of full vaccination (at least 2 weeks post your last shot) in order to attend any of our in person workshops or trainings.
